English Intensive Course

• Monday – Thursday, 9:00am – 12:50pm (classes may be held at 12:30pm – 4:20pm depending on availability).
• Students can start on any Monday and must join for at least 1 week.
• Students must be at least 16 to join; exceptions may be made for 15 year old students pending a level check and assessment by a Hawaii Palms English School (HPES) teacher.
• Multi-skill general English course divided into 3 levels. Focus on communication (speaking and listening comprehension) supported by grammar (2 or 3 grammar points per unit), vocabulary, reading (and a
little writing), and pronunciation.
• Intensive term is 12 weeks, which is how long it takes to complete each level.
• We follow a textbook as our curriculum guide (Evolve with 12 units). We assign homework and give quizzes every 2 units. There’s also a midterm
halfway through the term and a final at the end of the term.
• At the end of each term, we determine if students will go up to the next level or go back to the start of their current level.
• Students have the same teacher for the duration of the term (except for unusual circumstances). Teachers change at the start of every term.
• Classes are held in a classroom, but we may take students out on outings to communicate with students from other classes, expand our lessons outside the classroom, and communicate with native speakers
in the real world.
• There are bi-weekly presentations and mix-ups as part of the course.
• Students receive a written Student Evaluation every 4 weeks.
